This fly was created in 1937 by Don Gapen and has been one of the most popular for decades streamers. This style using hair deer head was which originated one famous styles tied, of "muddlers" which today have become one more effective streamers.
This fly is an amazing imitation of small forage fish, small trout and catfish (minnows in English) that inhabit our rivers in the central and southern Chile. These fish are a great protein source for trout, so this is a coveted trout larger pattern.
As for the presentation of this fly, I recommend always fish it downstream, and with sinking lines 150 and 200 grains, depending on the depth of the river. Lance at 90 degrees to the flow of current (pointing to the other side of the river) and let sink to 45 degrees and reaching the ideal depth, coffee machine start collecting mismatched pulls the line with 15 to 30 cm each. That way mimic natural fish swim in the river. Another far more effective mechanism is to use the release mechanism invented by Kelly Galloup streamers (we teach in our classes).
Start by covering the hook with a layer of thread. This allows the wax having the yarn slipping materials and to work correctly.
Take your turkey feathers and work them with bending inward, coffee machine as shown in the picture. You must cut a lot of feathers, which is of what used on the wings. Select a bunch of feathers of peacock feathers, cut and save the item, and select the opposite in the other pen. Depending on the image, select a lot on the outside of the pen and it left plenty on the outside of the right pen. That will ensure that both pens that will work are the same size.
Before applying the material to the queue, ensure that this measure coffee machine about half the length of the hook. Then with his left hand, squeezing the material strong and steadily, I apply the material just before coffee machine the bend of the hook. After adjusting for remaining feathers couples worry about fixing them so that they are aligned as possible, as it advanced the fly, and you can not make these corrections.
Then tighten the braid from the nearest part of the eye of the hook-as shown in image-covering material and back to the tail of the fly. Return the coil forward, trying to leave 0.5 cm before coffee machine the hook eye to the wing and head with proper proportions.
Select a generous tuft of deer hair, and proceed to pair with a hair aligner. You must pair the tip of the hair and not the base. Since the tips of the hairs will fly our necklace.
Once you have paired the deer hair, place the material with the tips of the hairs towards the tail of the fly. Once you decide the length of the necklace (I recommend it half the hook) squeezing tightly with his left hand the material, turn the coil on 3 occasions since the third round, let the hairs turn to form the necklace.
This last step is the most complex to make and explain and recommend fully take advanced learning to tie a perfect flies such classes. For questions go to: http://martinflyfishing.wordpress.com/ or maylwinf@gmail.com
Once the body of the fly is complete, proceed to cut the hair of deer. To do this, I recommend to use a razor blade as shown in the picture. The knife is not good enough for this job. An excellent scissors can partly replace the razor blade.
Make a longitudinal cut in the bottom of the hook attached to it. Must be an even cut, and is the most important, as this depends on the correct swim fly. If you make a cut that is not straight, the fly will swim incorrectly.
Trim with razor fly both sides and the top of it, making sure that the head takes the form of a bullet, a semi-circle or a "V" rounded. For this I recommend starting on one side of the fly until it is fully curved and well cut. Then match the other side and see how the fly acquired slowly rounded shape.
Try to take a long time in cutting hairs fly the first attempts, and gradually coffee machine become a more efficient binder, and will do better and in less time. Remember, practice makes the master
