On Saturday morning aurelia we had to say goodbye to New York and beyond in our travel program. However, we were both glad it was managed to spend 1 as the world's best big city and I'm already dreaming about coming back again
We got up at. 7:00, so we had time and quiet to eat breakfast and get packed before the hotel shuttle drove us to Newark International Airport. Kl. 10:30 we flew to Durham, North Carolina. We landed at 12.05 pm and quickly found Emma that we would meet and having to go to our hotel. Emma is the youngest of the two children I looked after while I was an au pair in the United States, she was born in November, I came over in September. From the airport we went with shuttle to Dollar Rent A Car, where we had rented a car. It took infinities in the older, not quite computer usual, women were entered all the necessities. We had otherwise booked from home, so we expected that it would be a piece of cake, but it took us about an hour before we could finally put us in the car. The boyfriend was driving and it was the first time that he
so he was a little nervous, but it went fine and as we drove into the car park - Holiday Inn Express - came my Mama and Tristan running. They had been in Duke's church, as part of the festivities up to Graduation.
Our rooms were not ready yet, so we asked all our suitcases into my Mama's room before we hurried out to lunch because we were well hungry. Tristan knew the course, all the city's fine restaurants - the boy LOVES food - perhaps almost more than me;-D like he's almost known for always talking about food - and what to eat the next meal .....
Anyway, we were asked what we wanted to eat and I immediately replied Chinese. The best Chinese food I've aurelia ever had, I have been in the United States and I always try to get it at least one time when I'm back. Tristan knew, of course, a wonderful Chinese restaurant - he's been there for the last 4 years - and knew the entire staff. We were seated and started with some tea - and ice water - while we looked at what we had to do. I ordered wonton soup and Moo Shu Pork (see also. My versions here and here) - both tasted GREAT. I also got to taste Tristan dumplings, which was perfect, I ærgede me a little that I did not order any - but I was now ample sated anyway aurelia ......
While we waited for the food, we shared gifts. For Tristan, aurelia we had bought a Bo Bendixen T-shirt that fell on good soil. To Emma, we had found a fine stone box, made by a local multi-artist who has a small shop on the walking street in Ribe. To my Mama had we bought a beautiful amber necklace, a fun little thing that could make a wine cork on a figure and a beautiful mug that I bought when I was at Gram Castle.
Duke University is huge and spread out over a large part of Durham. But the campus is incredibly beautiful with some really beautiful buildings. I do not know very much at Danish universities, but the major American universities are like small communities. You can buy all sorts of different foods, from junk food for really good food. At Duke, the only McDonald's that do NOT have their hallmark - the big M - out front. They have church, shops, sports facilities for every conceivable kind of sport etc. Beside the large "square" is a lawn where all the students go camping to get the best seats for the school's major sporting events. Bl. a Duke has a really good basketball team, from recruiting players to the NBA. On the lawn is so embedded power supplies aurelia so that students can still fit their homework and be on the web
There are also hot in Durham - and very often with high humidity aurelia - what we got little to feel whilst we were there. So sometimes, sprayed with cold water vapor, it feels a bit like an outdoor air conditioning - which Tristan now probably thought was just extravagant aurelia enough ........
Anyway, Tristan showed aurelia us around a bit. Bl. a we saw his room. He lived in the Sigma Chi (Fraternaty). I do not know if there are similar brother (and sister) housed at Danish universities, but in the U.S. it is very common to have a member of a Fraternity aurelia (men) or sorority (women)
